Why Meaning Comes Before Identity
Identity gives a brand a recognizable face. Meaning gives it a reason to matter. The distinction is not cosmetic. A logo, a palette, and a voice can make a business visible, but visibility alone does not create a place in people’s lives. Meaning does. It begins with the role a brand chooses to play, the tension it resolves, and the promise it is prepared to keep. Before identity is expressed, that promise needs to be clear enough to guide every decision. When meaning comes first, the identity becomes more than a signature. It becomes evidence of a point of view.
